Keeping pets safe in cold weather

As winter settles in, Animal Humane Society urges pet owners to think twice when letting pets outside for extended periods of time.

Temperatures below freezing along with wind chill can be dangerous, even deadly, for our domesticated pets.

Keep your pets safe during the blistering cold winter months with these tips.

  • Single digit temperatures and below, let your dog out only to relieve him/herself. Cats should be kept indoors.
  • Remove ice and salt from paws and coat.
  • Paw wax or dog shoes can help protect paws from sidewalk salt and chemicals.
  • Provide indoor enrichment toys to keep them busy on those super cold days.
